Paper or Electrons.

I have been wanting to start reading again, something I once enjoyed until letting myself be enveloped by social media. First it was MySpace yes MySpace, I am that old. Now Facebook is the vice. It allows one to scroll constantly for hours on end through useless “information”  and politically filtered material by a liberal founder. Yes, the things with friends and family are great to see, the original reason I joined. But now, Facebook is more advertisements and geared to sway ones political, moral and life beliefs. Mere propaganda in most cases.

Back to the point. As I look for new books to read I am faced with the question of E-Books or Paper books. There are many choices for E-books, IBooks, Google books, Kindle and probably more that I am gladly unaware of.  Some times the E-book is cheaper than paper books defiantly hard backs. But who do you buy from? How long will that book be available? What happens if the company tanks or discontinues their book services? Do you only have those books until your devices dies then? How do you share your favorite book with others? It is very convenient to be able to take hundreds of books with you whereever you go and to pick up your reading where you left off on many devices.  For many people this is the only way to go with in todays modern times with smart phones everywhere.

Paper books last forever provided they are taken care of. They can be traded and shared with friends and family.  I do believe that paper books provide somewhat of a different experience than from a digital screen, something about turning physical pages. The down falls of paper books is you only have one copy and you have to carry any book you want to read with you, that will get quite cumbersome if you try to carry the same amount of books your Ipad can. Books take up a considerable amount of space if you keep them when you are done reading them. Books are typically more expensive, hard back books even more so. Buying a Paper book can support local bookstores Whereas all the e-books I am aware of are only sold by the large companies.
